Random updates

A lot has been happening these past few weeks…havent got around to blogging about it all like a good blogger. Apologies!

Firstly I have to say with great glee that it was my 6 year anniversary with my adoring boyfriend yesterday!! The love of my life and I have made it six years, we’ve rolled with the punches, taken everything with a pinch of salt, and had some amazing times together! I am truly blessed to have such an amazing, caring man by my side. And when I got home from gym yesterday, I was allowed to shower and then swept away to dinner at a restaurant of my choice! Had some awesome wine, starter mussels, and steak and calamari at John Dory’s (my first choice was my best friend’s restaurant, but alas they’re closed on Mondays). So here is to another six more years, and then some! I love you, dear heart! Thank you for helping me be a better person each and every day and for putting up with my many quirks. I love you!

Secondly, I bought myself a new gaming mouse, so hopefully my CoD4 skills will improve! I got myself the beautiful Razer Lachesis in blue (I was sad it didnt come in green). Its uber smooth and fast, but I have to still get used to it in CoD4 haha. OC is this weekend, so I’ll get some practice in then (and yay for sleeping over!).

A week or two ago I lost someone who I thought was a friend. I tell you, I’ve never had to put so much effort into a friendship before! I’ve also never been lied to so much by someone I thought cared about me. I guess I probably should have realised it was doomed from the start, but I so did want it to work out, so I tried to ignore those negative issues. Things started getting a bit hectic when he started purchasing inappropriate things for me in the form of sex toys and lingerie. Yes, you read correctly. Despite my many mentions about my boyfriend and upcoming engagement, he still persisted (with a shock, I realised he’s done this with multiple women!!). It saddened me, because we could have been awesome friends. I think he’s lonely. I believe that will change when he gets a job and starts living. I did put in a good word for him with a friend who works with my bf and knows some people (heavens! I wonder if he thought I’d try get him a job at my bf’s work haha bf would soooo not let that happen!), so maybe something will come of that, but I doubt it. A lot of people I’ve spoken to think he needs to mature a little before he can settle into a real job. But how…? Maybe he’ll make the Dog Unit in three years if he persues that career. I think it’d do him some good, despite his mother vehemently disagreeing with me. Oh well, maybe she knows him in a way I never did. Still, I think a boot up the butt would wake him up enough to do something with his life. Things dont come without effort. Despite the friendship going sour, I do wish the best for him. Especially if he didnt lie about his childhood like he lied about everything else…his parent’s need a good boot up their butts for that! Makes me so mad!

Speaking of effort, I’ve finally started the process of applying to Unisa for a BEd degree….eek! I apparently have to apply online, and I got to Part 3 in Step 1 where they ask my Exam Number from when I was in Matric/Gr 12/Std 10…like I still had that haha. I had to phone my school and they called me back when they found it (their online archive only dates back to 2005…I was 2001) but when I tried to submit it on the Unisa website, they only wanted 10 digits, not 13!? I’ll have to phone tomorrow and find out what the deal is.

My poor car is also having a bit of trouble. After Girls’ Night I found my car was smelling like petrol (gas) when I drove her, so the following Saturday I called my cousin out to take a look. Turns out my fuel pipes were worn out, so I had to have those replaced. And my exhaust has a large hole rusted into it. Le sigh. Fuel consumption goes down because of that…grrr! I was wondering why I used to get around 12km per litre and now I get around 9km…that must be it! And lastly, my gearbox is sticking when changing from 1st into 2nd…so much all at once! I wont even mention the tappets hahaha. At least I’ll be pampering her a little bit on Sunday…gonna give her a bit of a polish. V’s doing her car, so she thought we could do it together…yay! :)

Other than that, I cant think of anything more to tell you…I guess I’ll have some more news next week. New poll up, about mouses…please do vote :)

NaNoWriMo!

NaNoWriMo!

For so many years I’ve been wanting to write a novel….or at least half a novel! Coming this November, I’m going to do just that! I’m participating in NaNoWriMo!

To elaborate, the website explains it best, so I’m just going to copy and paste what they say:

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It’s all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that’s a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and—when the thing is done—the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.

In 2007, we had over 100,000 participants. More than 15,000 of them crossed the 50k finish line by the midnight deadline, entering into the annals of NaNoWriMo superstardom forever. They started the month as auto mechanics, out-of-work actors, and middle school English teachers. They walked away novelists.

So, to recap:

What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month’s time.

Who: You! We can’t do this unless we have some other people trying it as well. Let’s write laughably awful yet lengthy prose together.

Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era’s most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work.

I’m looking for people to do it with me, so we can cheer each other on and bring on a little competitiveness which is always healthy (“omw so-n-so is on 3000 words, and I’m only on 1000! i gotta get moving!”). If you’re participating, drop me a comment with a link to your blog so we can keep up to date on each others progress.

I have no idea what my story will be about, so any ideas n such are very, very welcome! Apparently not knowing is part of the rush of NaNoWriMo haha. Time to start stocking up on late night snacks!

To those not participating, ah well, maybe next year. But please do wish me good luck!
