IT ARRIVED!

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

So the item that I was waiting for, finally arrived in the mail yesterday!

My novel!

Remember I wrote a novel last November for NaNoWriMo? Well, I edited it and my proof copy arrived in the mail!!

I was at the shops with my mom, she went to Pick ‘n Pay while I checked the post (she knew I was waiting for “something”). I unlocked the box, and there was my package sitting there waiting. I took a deep breath and pulled it out, sat on the floor and sliced it open with my Fifa keyring.

There it was. All shiny and new! Turned it over, and there was my ISBN and barcode! I giggled like mad, then madly locked the postbox, dashed off to dump the box in my car, then ran over to our local bookstore in the same shopping centre and asked them if I could stash it on their shelf so I could casually bring my mom over and let her notice it. They agreed, I squealed, we stashed, and I went to fetch my mom (who was thankfully in the queue waiting to pay!).

I brought her over to the book store, explaining to her that I needed her opinion on a book for my sister. Took her over to where my book was stashed, casually pointed it out, she picked it up and read the cover.

It took a few seconds to sink in, and she didnt have her glasses on, but when she noticed my name on the cover, she gasped and cried out in surprise. Then she got all choked up and teary-eyed and told me how proud she was. It was the bestest moment ever!

I then went home to show my dad, and patiently waited the rest of the day until my sister got home at 6:30pm, then showed her. She was also very excited and supportive, which meant the world to me!

So without further ado! Photos:

WOOHOO!!!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 30 days later and I’m DONE DONE DONE!!!

It’s hard to believe but after hours and hours of typing, blisters on my fingers (not kidding!) and many a sigh later and I’m offically done with NaNoWriMo ‘09!!

WOW what a feeling to have written a novel, or at least 50,000 words of one (it’s still not 100% complete)….and my bf was so proud of me, and was sitting right next to me as I finished! When I phoned my dad to tell him, he congratulated me and said he was so proud that I saw it through to completion, because I easily could have given up at any point.

I’m so exhausted! Having been off for a week while I was ill, I literally wrote a book in 3 weeks….wow. Just wow!

Now to take a 2 week break and then get editing with a fresh mindset! And there is the TGIO (Thank Goodness It’s Over) Party to look forward to this week! I’m so excited for my fellow nano’ers to have done this with me, whether you finished or not!

As a reward, I get to deck my house out in Christmas goodies and set up my tree! :D

NaNoWriMo update…again

Friday, November 27th, 2009

We’re nearing the home stretch! As you know I was sick for the past week and got no writing done. Nothing. Nil. Zilch. Zero! I also struggled with a bit of a lull of trying to get back into the swing of things after I was well enough to put finger to keyboard. And I’ve found I only, ONLY like typing on my laptop keyboard…so I dont get anything done when my laptop is not around.

Anyway, I digress! So these past few days, I’ve typed a little bit here and there, and today I sat for four-five hours typing and am proud to say I’m almost at 40k! Ok, ok, I’m supposed to be on 45000 today, so I’m about 6000 off but(!) i’m getting there!

So yay for me and wow we’re almost at 50,000…hey what? What’s that you say? Procrastinating? No I dont know what that means! I think I should go look it up!! *goes off to procrastinate*

PS: There was an image to add of my laptop and my novel, but Photobucket is being idiotic :/

Last I checked, the votes were sitting on 3 votes, so nice to see 3 more people got their vote on before it closed! :D

Sorry for my delayed post, I’ve been sick as a dog (I’ve never really understood that saying?) since last Wednesday. This meant I lost my voice, slept all day, cried out in pain when I swallowed or coughed (sore throat – felt like I was swallowing glass), blew my nose til it was raw (actually, thats still happening), and eventually coughing up blood. Yes. Charming. Went to the doc who diagnosed me with a Septic Post Nasal Drip (mmmm, lovely hey!) and gave me some antibiotics. I’m a homeopathic lover, so I feel like a cheat using antibiotics, but yay for feeling a little better. Nose is drying up, throat is not so sore, and while there still is blood, I’m told it’ll go away when my throat heals.

In NaNo news, I havent written ANYTHING since last week!! I’m so far behind and I have so much to catch up on!! I’m supposed to be at 40k by tonight *sob*. Wish me luck in catching up! I’m currently on 31742…eep!

And finally, I’d like to point your attention to a super-talented friend of mine, FXMorph, who so kindly drew a beautiful rat-girl background for me (pic inset, click for larger version), and I LOVE it! I have to seriously control myself from begging for a few more in different poses hehe but seriously, I was feeling so ill and down these past few days, and this talented guy cheered me right up! So thank you, FXMorph! *hugs*

NaNo Half-Way Party

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Today we’re offically through into our third week of NaNoWriMo! I’m at 24,168 words and going strong! We met at the River Club for our halfway party, with EvilBelgian, his dad, Magependragon, myself and my bf having breakfast there beforehand.

The breakfast deal is well worth it, at R70, for a self-helping of cold breakfast (cereals, croissants, danishes, etc), and hot serving of eggs, bacon, sauteed potatoes, friend onion rings, fried tomatoes, and sausages. The deal also included a bucket of 50 balls (hiring of a club is R10) which you could then knock off the driving range or you could rather choose to play a 9 hole game instead of the bucket. I had fun taking food pics, but I forgot to take a photo of our hot breakfast…lesigh.

After eating our fill and putting (in my case) our balls off the second floor of the driving range, we proceeded with the NaNo Half Way Party. Loot in the form of adorable Dinosaur Erasers, which I dubbed Wrimo’Rasers, noise making balloon blowers (gosh these things were noisy!), and other cool things (I got a replacement feather for my one that blew away at the kick off party haha).

After we ate, laughed, drank, laughed some more (that creepy murder music was eery!) we eventually parted ways, with promises to continue on with our novel plight with due diligence.

And for the first time in ages, I lugged my camera with to document the event :P

Everyone chatting…
