Today is the 4th April. Also know to us rat owners as World Rat Day! Yes, believe it. Rats have an official day! Coincidently, it’s Easter today as well, so Happy Easter to all of you as well.

Oddly, our family tradition celebrates Easter on Easter Monday. I’m not too sure why, but I love that we’re a little different to everyone else. And often, while everyone is finishing their eggs, we’re only just getting ours. Yes, mom still hides eggs in the garden for us, even though my sister and I are 26 and 29. In the past few years, because we’re now adults, my mom started packaging the eggs into parcels, and made one for my dad, myself, my sister and our boyfriends and hid them in the garden with our name tags on. If we find someone else’s bag, we ignore it and keep looking, but we often taunt each other with a singsong “I know where yooooours is!” as we pass one another. The of course giggling as they rush off to where you’ve just come from. It’s all good fun.

However, I’m not sure if we’ll be doing that again this year. For one, I’m on WeightWatchers which isnt Easter egg friendly haha and two, well I cannot deny that money is a little tight lately and frivolous things as bags of eggs have to take a backseat. I know my parents pain at not giving eggs, but I dont mind.

This year, as most of the years past, I’ve bought them some eggs and packaged them in colour coded bags. Of course, there is something special thrown in to my immediate family’s bags that my bf and sister’s bf’s bags dont have.

So on that note, Happy Easter and Happy World Rat Day! I’ll leave you with a photo of my dear passed Xeon in some eggs (it’s the only egg & rat photo I have unfortunately, as my new girls dont like sitting on photo sets lol).

On Wednesday, I said goodbye to an old friend: Bluebetty, my old ‘97 Ford Laser/Tracer. She was the first car I ever bought (and I bought her cash), and she was a very loyal girl to me over the years. But, the time had come to trade her in, as much as I hated saying goodbye (and yes, I do actually miss her).

But now, after choosing my car colour (“Midnight Grey”) and interior colour (red & black), I am the proud owner of a brand new Hyundai Getz 1.4. She has power steering, aircon, electric windows throughout, fog lights, adjustable seats, a radio/cd/mp3 frontloader, and lots of pizaaz.

I named her, “The Ratmobile”. I have to commend Hyundai Milnerton on their superb service, as I wasnt an easy customer, hehe. They even put a note on my window saying “Congratulations on your new Getz: “The Ratmobile”", after I told them her name. Such a sweet touch to the experience of buying a new car.

So without further ado, photos!

My sister has been studying since the later half of last year. She was accepted into IHESA and since then has completed her course in Patisserie and will be completing her course in Professional Cookery in June this year.

In the middle of that, she enrolled at SABA – South Africam Butler Academy and graduated as a Butler, with distinction and a total of 98% (highest in the year!), a few weeks ago.

I was lucky enough to attend the intimate graduation ceremony, along with her boyfriend, held at a Villa in Camp’s Bay. I took my camera along and took some photos. Since the event was mainy a visual one, with people mingling and chatting while the new Butlers prepared platters and drinks, I’ll post a few collages I put together to better depict the event rather than not do it justice with my fumbled words.

Finally, let me say I am so proud of my sister for all she’s accomplished. It hasnt been easy doing three fulltime courses at once, all the while keeping an after hours job to pay for it all, but somehow she did it.

Two weekends ago, the bf and I (along with about 8 other couples and friends) were treated by a friend to a weekend away at a resort just outside of Segdefield, which is along the Garden Route. It was all expenses paid, except food and petrol, which was a real treat! And the resort was gorgeous! Queen bed with complimentary mint chocolates, JC Le Roux champagne on arrival, beautifully decorated chalet with a view over the Swartvlei Lagoon.

We arrived after our leisurely 5 hour journey and, as mentioned, were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne. Most of our party had arrived and were standing outside chatting and laughing. The weather was gorgeous so we all hung out by the pool and had a braai after we’d settled in.

Saturday the bf and I went to the Wild Oats Morning Market, while the other members of our group stayed in to nurse hangovers. The market was huge and very crowded, and there was so much to look at. Food was being served everywhere one looked, and while we were there we had oysters, pancakes, and bacon & egg rolls (not all at once of course hehe).

From left to right: Benches were available everywhere, the bf browsing the ‘Wild Oats’ Morning Market, the stalls and shoppers, and the oysters which I ate!

We returned to the resort and went out to the jetty, grabbed a peddleboat and peddled out to meet some of our friends who were fishing in the lagoon. We returned and spent the rest of the afternoon lounging by the poolside, before having another braai that evening.

Sunday morning the bf and I made bacon and egg for breakfast, and packed our stuff so we were ready to leave. For the rest of the afternoon, until about three, we spent the time on one of the nearby beaches, while our friends fished and tanned. Dolphins were spotted out in the ocean and some of the guys climbed the huge hill closeby to get a better look (too tiring for me, so I stayed behind and read my book).

The weekend was unfortunately too short, but it was so relaxing and beautiful. I’d love to return there some day and have another gorgeous weekend away with my man.
